Reviewed: Arbonne Intelligence CC Cream (Can It Make a Foundation Lover Switch?)

I put Arbonne's new Intelligence CC Cream to the test.

I'm a die-hard foundation fan, so I always thought I'd sit out the CC cream trend. I just figured an all-in-one product couldn't provide the level of coverage I need, and wouldn't give me all-day wear.

But with every woman, everywhere, raving about these products, I was becoming increasingly curious. So when the opportunity came up to test-drive Arbonne's recently-launched Intelligence CC Cream, I decided to go for it.

From The Styling Edit Archives

Never heard of Arbonne? They're a beauty company similar to Avon, whose products are sold online and through independent consultants. Their products are all botanically-based and mostly free of weird-sounding ingredients like formaldehyde, triclosan and parabens. Everything is vegan, made without gluten and allergy-tested. Not bad, right?

Their Intelligence CC Cream is described as a 10-in-1 "complexion control cream" that provides lightweight, buildable coverage in one time-saving product. I'm sure you're wondering what the 10 benefits are: it primes, protects the skin's moisture barrier, conceals discolourations, hydrates, mattifies, brightens, covers blemishes, refines pores, soothes and helps perfect your overall complexion.

Note that there's no SPF in this CC cream—although I'm okay with that, since my moisturizer contains it.

There are four different shades—Fair, Light, Medium and Dark—which you can also mix and match to create the perfect colour for your skin.

I tried the Medium shade and found the colour looked lighter on my face than how it appeared out of the tube. It comes out like a mousse and has a smooth, velvet texture.

It blended very well on my skin; it isn't sticky when you initially put it on your face, nor when it sets. I like to let it set on my skin for at least three minutes before I apply other makeup, at which point it starts to feel like a powder. I've tried applying it both with a foundation brush and with my fingers, but prefer the finish I get with a brush.

Here are my before and after photos. The before:

And after:

In terms of coverage, I found that one layer was enough to cover up most of the redness on my cheeks and even out the rest of my skin.

The bottom line

I used this CC cream for about two weeks on and off. I really liked that it wasn't heavy, unlike many foundations that you can feel sitting on your skin. And of course, it's amazing that it has botanical ingredients.

However... I ultimately longed for even more and longer-lasting coverage—so this wasn't enough to make me give up my beloved foundation. I would probably only use this CC cream once in a while (lazy Sundays, going trip to the mall, etc.).

Let me know what you thought of it?
