Fashion designers, models and celebrities all gathered for the annual CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards on Monday night. And as you might have guessed, there was plenty of beauty eye candy!
From crystal appliqués to stained berry lips, here are the looks you need to see:
Holy glow! I'm pretty sure it mostly comes from within, but Gabrielle's little makeup touches certainly help: dewy skin, rosy cheeks and (the best part) crystal appliqués at the corners of her eyes. Strong brows frame her face, so she can get away with just mascara and a bit of liner. I adore this kind of makeup!
I always love Rosie in a berry lip, and this one is perfect (creamy and almost stained-looking). Her eyeshadow is equally dramatic in shades of warm brown, with liner and lashes adding definition. It all works because of her fresh and bare-looking skin, and sleek straight hair combed off her face.
America has a lot going on between her baby pink lipstick, dangling earrings and bejewelled collar—but I love it. This colour is just so pretty on her warm skin, with a slightly deeper shade on the cheeks and a sprinkling of freckles. Wisely, she kept her hair in a neat side-slicked bun and wore her lashes au naturel.
Emily kept to a neutral palette—and while there's nothing groundbreaking about this look, it subtly shows off her natural beauty. I especially like the eyeshadow, which extends outward to create an almost feline shape without seeming heavy. Her skin is sculpted to perfection.
Alessandra had my favourite look—so natural and fresh! The shimmering gold highlights at the inner corners of her eyes really bring this to life. Also contributing to her beachy beauty vibe: subtle bronzer, peach gloss and an illuminated skin finish (no powder). And I love her untouched brows!
Ciara has been killing it on the red carpet this year, and I"m marvelling how she's managed to change her look so dramatically from one event to the next. Here, it's all about the romantic wavy hair, casually tucked behind the ears. I like how she kept this makeup light and pretty, with rosy stained lips and subtle metallic liner.
With her hair all slicked back and off her face, Heidi looks prettier than ever. The light tan gives her a sun-kissed glow, so all she needs are the lashes and a little bronzey shadow to make her look pop. (I'd still rather not see the bottom false lashes and white liner, but oh well!) Her skin is incredible, and appears to be sans foundation.
Olivia's confidence with colour is truly impressive. She paired shimmering green all the way around her eyes with its opposite hue, a sheer orange, on her lips. Darkened waterlines, soft brows and side-swept waves complete the look. The only thing I'd change is making her skin finish more natural.
Leave it to Adriana to rock vampy, glossy oxblood lips with slicked-back hair and a very on-trend velvet choker. With her flawless bare skin and natural lashes, the effect is surprisingly fresh, not heavy.
Karlie's skin is so incredibly healthy-looking. I don't want to call this strobing, because it's really just that cheek highlight (instead of every high plane on her face). Anyway, doesn't it make you want to bust out your luminizer right this minute? She looks so fresh and pretty; it's also a nice change of pace to see her in a top knot.
Olivia let her makeup do all the talking by wearing her hair up in a ballerina bun. Her skin is amazing, her brows are perfectly groomed, and her creamy berry lipstick is super pretty. I like the smoky eyes, too, but I don't think they needed such a strong warm brown abovee the crease—it feels out of place.
Kirsten often makes a retro-inspired statement on the red carpet, and this time it's a nod to classic pin-up girl style. I love the side-swept waves and orchid earrings (yes, they are actually real orchids!). However, it's not too literal, thanks to the smoky, shimmery eyes and berry lipstick.
Jennifer rocks this look from afar, what with the edgy short haircut, dramatic black liner and super bright red lips. It's just that up close, it's all so heavy—to the point where the foundation is actually creasing in her smile lines! She doesn't need such a cakey base, nor the painted on "Instagram brows."
Jessica rarely wears her hair up, so I appreciate that she tried to mix things up here with a slicked-back wavy updo. It definitely shows off her flawless, poreless skin. But it seems like she's compensating for the lack of hair (and no earrings) with too-strong eyeliner and blush. I think it might've worked better with a fresher face and some dramatic earrings.
