Reviewed: Clarins 3-Dot Liner (It Makes Your Eyes Pop, Without Being Obvious

Now the best three-pronged eyeliner comes in brown!

New Clarins 3-Dot Liner in Brown.

Ever wished you could make your eyes stand out more—but hate the look of obvious eyeliner or eyeshadow?

I am sooo with you. This is my exact day-to-day makeup goal, since I prefer a lighter touch during daylight hours and my lid shape makes eyeshadow a waste of time (unless I pile it on and nobody wants to see that).

But there IS a solution, and it's a very, very awesome one. Clarins 3-Dot Liner, now available in Brown, creates stand-out eyes in the best, most subtle and 'not trying too hard' way. In fact, nobody will even be able to tell you're wearing extra eye makeup!

It's limited-edition, so run, do not walk.

You might remember me talking about this thing a while back (2012, to be exact, when it first came out in Black and was limited-edition). Now the Black is permanent and they've updated the formula with extra lash-conditioning ingredients to help lashes stay long and strong (yay!).

The Brown shade is new since last month, in a limited-edition run—but let's hope they make it permanent, too, because it really deserves to be.

First things first, it comes in the signature red Clarins packaging, and here are the ingredients (in case you worry about that):

When you take it out, it looks like any other skinny liquid liner, until you open the cap. Not one but three prongs here, which makes this super-special:

The magical triple tip.

Lemme explain why.

When you gently press the triple-pointed applicator on your skin, it creates three tiny dots (hence the name). Apply it right at the base of your lashes and it perfectly fills in the spaces between each lash to fake a fuller effect.

Yes, it takes a bit of extra time to use this, working your way along the lash line and stamping with the liner, instead of just drawing a line in one go. But the results are well worth it. Think va-va-voom voluminous lashes, without looking like you're wearing any extra makeup!

Of course, you can also use it as a conventional eyeliner if you hold it at an angle and draw along the lash line with only one of the tips.

The formula itself is a liquid, but a not a runny or messy one; it's quite neat and precise to use. Once it dries, which is very quick, it has amazing staying power—much better than the waterproof eyeliner pencils I've tried before in the waterlines, which tend to smear over the course of the day. The 3-Dot Liner doesn't budge.

While I love the Black, I think the Brown is more ideal on me for daytime, and is a great choice for those of us with light skin.

Ready for my before and after?

The ONLY thing that's changed here is the liner.

Kinda crazy what a difference this makes! And I was even wearing mascara before (the new Lancôme Grandiôse). But it's very clear that I NEED the 3-Dot Liner to provide definition... and it really delivers.

Here's a closer view:

Before and after Clarins 3-Dot Liner in Brown.

As you can see, I didn't tightline the waterlines at all—this tool isn't for that. The effect is just from filling in at the roots of my lashes. I concentrated most of my effort on the upper side, and then did a light touch along the lower roots as well.

You can probably tell that I'm just crazy about this thing! And now that I have the softer Brown, I'll be using it ALL the time. Have you tried it?
