Golden Globes 2019: The Best Skin, Hair and Makeup Moments (as Seen on Instagram)
With last night's Golden Globes, the 2019 award season has officially begun. And we're off to a VERY strong start in the beauty department. If you recall last year's ceremony, most of the attendees played it fairly safe (and the all-black dress code didn't help).
This year, it's all about bright colour in unexpected places (like blue lashes and green eyeshadow!), youthful ponytails and naturally radiant skin.
Here are the must-see looks from the red carpet:
Lupita Nyong’o
I literally gasped. Lupita is always amazing on the red carpet, but this look is EXTRA amazing. I can't get over the electric blue lashes and liner to match her dress, with flushed cheeks, creamy red lipstick and seriously perfect skin.
Lupita is wearing: Sheet mask • Eye cream • Moisturizer • Primer • Foundation in 550 Suede C • Concealer in 510 Suede C • Powder in 500 • Highlighter in Bronze Glow • Blush in Rum Raisin • Eyeshadow in Gris Fumee • Eyeshadow in Sienne • Eyeliner in Côte D'Azur and Noir Intense • Eyeliner in Noir • Mascara in Blue • False lashes in Royal Blue • Brow Pencil in Black • Brow mascara in Transparent • Lip balm • Lip liner in Portelle • Lipstick in Dram'atic
Camilla Belle
Normally celebs don't go this bold for awards shows, but I love that Camilla really went for it! Her green smoky eyes are a work of art, and balanced out by the slicked-back hair, strong brows and plunging neckline. The pink blush and lipstick are maybe a little intense up-close, but she pulls them off.
Camilla is wearing: Moisturizer • Eye gel • Face mist • Foundation in 30 Beige • Concealer in 20 Beige • Bronzer • Powder in 30 Naturel • Highlighter in Rosy Gold • Blush in In Love • Brow pencil in Brun Profond • Eyeshadow in Splendeur et Audace • Eyeliner in Mare-Chiaro • Eyeliner in Noir Intense • Mascara in 10 Noir • Lip balm • Lip liner in Rose Délicat • Lipstick in Fleurie
Irina Shayk
BOB GOALS! I'm totally obsessed with Irina's haircut—it's even better in motion! I always love the contrast of cute, casual hair and low-key makeup with a sexy, show-stopping dress. She looks so '90s-inspired and fresh.
Irin is wearing: Foundation • Eyeshadow in Glambition • Mascara • Lip gloss in Mocha Choco-Lata!
Laura Harrier
Finally, a lip look! Laura went for classic red, and paired it with a sleek ponytail, straight brows and natural, fluffy lashes. There's also a dusting of gold over her lids, but no harsh eyeliner. This is really, really pretty.
Laura is wearing: Toner • Moisturizer • Bronzer • Foundation in Beige 70 and Beige Rosé 102 • Powder in 40 Doré • Brow pencil in Ebène • Brow powder in Deep • Lip colour in Avant-Gardiste (on brows) • Eyeshadow in Mirage • Eyeshadow in Poudre D'Or • Mascara • Lip liner in Séduction and Scarlet • Lipstick in Rouge Charnel • Lipstick in Rosso Pompeiano
Emma Stone
Emma's look would be great... on someone twice her age! I usually love her, but I'm not into this matronly dress and the blush colour palette (which washes her out). I also wish her curls were brushed out, although the pearls at the back are kind of cool.
Emma is wearing: Gel moisturizer • Moisturizer • Foundation in Vanilla • Blush in Petal and Papaya • Eyeshadow in Dream • Eyeliner in Sparkling Brown • Mascara in Deep Black • Brow gel in Transparent • Lip liner in Rose Thé • Tinted lip balm in Ballet • Lip gloss in Sweet
Dakota Fanning
Timeless, elegant, graceful—that's how I'd describe Dakota in this Cinderella-inspired look. At first, I wasn't sure about red lipstick with the icy tones, but I think it makes it less predictable and "sweet."
Dakota is wearing: Lipstick in Love Bite
Thandie Newton
Thandie went '70s disco, and she looks amazing. I've forever loved this type of hairstyle—big, voluminous curls with a flat top—and the smoky eyes add drama without feeling harsh.
Thandie is wearing: Face mist • Face oil • Eye mask • Moisturizer • Foundation in Banana and Sand • Bronzer in St. Barth's • Blush in Joy • Highlighter in Brilliance • Powder in Candlelight • Eyeshadow in Hematite • Eyeshadow in Smokey Topaz and Celestite • Eyeliner in Raven • Mascara • Brow pencil in Oak Brown • Brow gel in Clear • Lip balm • Lipstick in Mirage
Amber Heard
It's hard to make a beautiful woman like Amber look bad, but her styling team came pretty close, no? I think they were going for a romantic Marie Antoinette vibe, but unfortunately, the hair looks like a bird's nest, and she's wearing way too much blush.
Amber is wearing: Lipstick in I Am Worth It
Jessica Chastain
So, I like elements of this one—like Jessica's unusual strawberry lipstick shade, the sparkly purple shadow, her flawless skin and the cool earrings. But I'm not sure why her ponytail is structured in a "Conehead" shape! And the black dress is somewhat harsh with her colouring.
Jessica is wearing: Moisturizer • Face mist • Foundation in Beige 10 and Beige Doré 21 • Blush in Rose Ecrin • Highlighter in Transparent • Eyeshadow in Tissé Rivoli and Clair Obscur • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Blond Doré • Lipstick in La Favorite
Penélope Cruz
Every red carpet, Penélope wears a warm, copper-toned eyeshadow with a pinky-nude lipstick. Always! And yet I can't fault her repeating her look when the result is like this. Gorgeous woman, gorgeous smile.
Penélope is wearing: Moisturizer • Foundation in 360 Bisque N • Eyeshadow in Sienna Sultry • Eyeliner in Café Serre • Mascara in Excessive Black • Lip liner in Rose • Lipstick in Si Seulement
Rachel Weisz
In a sea of nude and red lipsticks, Rachel's bright pink lip stain is a breath of fresh air. I'm just not sure that wearing her hair down was the right choice with all these ruffles, but I will say that I love how relaxed this feels. (I think the lack of strong eye makeup contributes to that.)
Rachel is wearing: Eye cream • Foundation in Beige Doré 01 • Powder in Clair • Contour in 40 • Powder in 20 • Eyeshadow in Tissé Rivoli • Eyeliner in Espresso • Mascara in Noir • Brow pencil in Dark Brown • Lip balm • Lip liner in Natural • Lipstick in Volupté
Saorise Ronan
I think this look suits Saoirse's casual style really well. The dramatic earrings jazz up the loose, straight hair with blonde ends, and the orangey-red lip stain isn't as formal as a lipstick. I really like the bright shimmer at her inner corners, too. Just sucks to have a bad skin day at the Globes!
Saorise is wearing: Eye cream • Foundation in Beige Doré 01 • Powder in Clair • Contour in 40 • Eyeshadow in Clair-Obscur • Eyeshadow in Fantasme • Eyeliner in Mat Taupe • Mascara in Brun • Brow pencil in Blond Tendre • Lip balm • Lip liner in Natural • Lipstick in Radical
Constance Wu
Is it just me or does Constance look like she's going to the prom? Her red carpet style always disappoints me—in contrast to how gorgeous she looked in Crazy Rich Asians. She has amazing skin, but her makeup could be a lot more sophisticated, and I'd make her hair looser, not so "done." (Obviously this would require a different dress and jewellery.)
Constance is wearing: Serum • Foundation • Blush in Momoko and Eiko • Eyeshadow in Solar • Lipstick in Streaming Mauve
Alison Brie
In some shots, I thought Alison's smoky eyes looked too heavy, but in this light at least, they're mesmerizing. I love the silvery tones with the peach lipstick and natural skin. Unfortunately, she is let down by her eyebrows, which are very drawn on.
Alison is wearing: Mattifier • Eyeshadow in Dusky Woods
Rosamund Pike
I feel like Rosamund had a look that a lot of fashion people liked... but as a beauty person, I'm not so into this. The main problem is the severity of the hair (not just a tight updo but a centre-parted one!), although I get that it was necessary with the neckline. I also think her blush is too low and drags her face down. A straighter brow would be more youthful.
Rosamund is wearing: Eyeshadow in Kenya • Lipstick in Amour
Amy Adams
I have a soft spot for Amy, but even I will admit that we've seen this look dozens of times before. Still, I love her hair—it looks so healthy and thick at this slightly shorter length. And the soft pinky makeup is extremely flattering.
Amy is wearing: Eyeshadow in Rose Gold • Lip gloss in Flesh Fantasy
Charlize Theron
On the one hand, I'm glad Charlize did half-up hair instead of the usual updo. On the other, I'm disappointed with the super straight, limp texture (which looks like my hair after I get out of the shower). I miss her hair with volume! The peach makeup is fine, but safe.
Lucy Boynton
Painting Lucy's face must be a makeup artist's dream! I really appreciate the attention to detail here—as in the feathery brows, flawless blending and perfect lip texture. There's just the right amount of gold shimmer so as not to be overkill. However, I'm not sure about the spidery lashes or the platinum hair (I always prefer darker honey shades, not cool blondes).
Lucy is wearing: Toner • Moisturizer • Lip balm
