Q: Hi Bill! Thanks for allowing your readers such a wonderful opportunity to ask a superstar for an advice!! Woohoo!

From The Styling Edit Archives

About me: I'm 5'5" with green eyes and light skin that has a warm undertone. I tan very easily in the summer. My natural hair colour is... gosh, I don't remember! Judging by the roots, it's medium brown. I've been dyeing my hair since I was allowed to. I took various shots at red, orange, dark chocolate and everything in between, however nothing feels exactly right.

Oksana can't find a cut that works with her straight hair and round face.

I've had this haircut for several years, as I have a round face shape and it's a nightmare to find a cut that flatters a round face. So after one hairdresser gave me a cut that didn't leave me in tears, I haven't tried anything else.

I have hair so straight, it's a nuisance. It never holds a curl (the poor hairdresser had to use up a whole can of hairspray at my wedding) and it's also quite naturally thin, dry and damaged from bleaching it for so long. A year ago, I gave up blowdrying and straightening, and have switched from washing my hair daily to every other day, allowing it to air-dry. However, to be honest, it didn't really make much of a difference in my hair condition.

Looking forward to hearing your advice! Thanks so much in advance. — Oksana

A: Oksana, flattery will get you everywhere.

I know the lightening of your fine hair wreaks havoc on its condition, but it also plumps up your cuticle to create a less flat look. You may want to try an ever so slightly warmer tone. This will slow down the amount of damage acquired from the lightening process.

(By the way, there may be new promise in our future for repairing the damage caused by colouring, heat styling, etc. Details coming soon, I promise... IF it really works!)

In the meantime, bringing up the length will work your neck a bit more, which I find an attractive feature.

Cut what ends you have as crisp as you can get them (but not to make your hair short). This way, hair always reads healthy even when it is not.
