Winter is almost here—and maybe your closet could use some help. With temperatures dropping, now is the time to fill in any gaps in your wardrobe with practical clothes and outerwear that will keep you warm all season long.
But what if you’ve got designer taste on a shoestring budget? Well, I’m here to show you that it is possible to get a high-end winter look without spending a lot.
You may not know that Walmart has seriously upped its game when it comes to winter fashion. In the Winter Fashion Shop, I found everything from stylish sweaters and shackets to cozy coats and boots—and they all look way more expensive than they really are.
Here’s what to look for when shopping for winter fashion on a budget, plus all my Walmart finds.
How to Shop for Winter Fashion
Walmart’s Winter Fashion Shop is a one-stop shop for winter clothing, coats, boots and accessories. To help you navigate the selection, here’s what I recommend:
- Neutral colours: Understated neutrals (such as cream, camel, grey, black, dark green and navy) always look more high-end than trendy brights.
- Timeless patterns: Plaids, checks and houndstooth patterns are winter staples that never go out of style.
- Classic shapes: You can’t go wrong with classic silhouettes like turtlenecks, cardigans, puffer jackets and parkas.
- Natural materials: Where possible, look for fabrics like cotton, wool and cashmere, either alone or in a blend. (Yes, I found 100% cashmere at Walmart!)
Editor’s tip: To keep your pieces looking new, wash them on the delicate cycle and hang them to dry.
The Best Walmart Winter Fashion of 2022
Sweaters, Cardigans & Turtlenecks
Could the fringe detail on this cream sweater be any cuter?! It would look equally great with jeans or a black miniskirt and tights.
The red and black plaid pattern on this button-down cardigan gives it a fun, preppy update. I’d wear this over a little black dress.
Pleated Drop-Shoulder Sweater
Can we talk about the statement sleeves on this this cream sweater? Along with the slightly oversized fit, they give this piece such a designer feel.
Long Cable Cardigan
Everyone can use a classic long cardigan. This one (which is 60% cotton) has an expensive look thanks to the cable detailing.
This half-zip sweater in classic camel can be worn alone or layered over a turtleneck or bodysuit for extra warmth.
Jewel Button Cardigan
It’s the sparkly jewel buttons that elevate this black cardigan into something special.
A black turtleneck is the number one most versatile piece in your winter wardrobe—you can dress it up or dress it down. This one is a stretchy rib knit and 97% cotton.
Buffalo Plaid Shacket
Nothing says cozy like buffalo plaid. This oversized shacket can be worn buttoned up as a shirt, open as a jacket, or peeking out under a coat for extra warmth (and style!).
Faux Sherpa Shacket
Also in buffalo plaid, this shacket is even cozier thanks to its faux sherpa fabric.
Besides the graphic black and white check, this shacket has a cool fringed hem to give your outfits a bit of western flair.
If plaid’s not your thing, there’s also this grey shacket in a super-soft, 78% cotton knit. I love how the black collar and trim add interest and create a long line.
Puffer Coats & Parkas
Oversized Long Puffer
An oversized long puffer is eternally practical and stylish—it looks good with everything from casual outfits to fancy dresses. I love this one in classic military green.

This short puffer also has an oversized fit, and the white-on-black star pattern is both tasteful and unique.

This relaxed-fit anorak is yet another versatile option. The removable faux fur hood and zipper details are so impressive.
This sporty puffer is perfect for throwing over your gym clothes. The quilting and shiny finish give it a futuristic vibe.

If you prefer a form-fitting shape, this long quilted puffer is my pick. It has a flattering cinched waist and the dark green is a nice switch from the usual basic black.

Just like hiking boots, combat boots are here to stay. These ones not only have cool gold grommets, there’s also a row of faux pearls around the ankle.
Lace-Up Faux Shearling Boots
I love the graphic black criss-cross laces and platform soles on these faux shearling snow boots.
